Company Profile
Special Neighbors provides supports and services based on individual needs, wants and capabilities. The persons we support live in many different types of residences primarily located in Eastern Jackson County.
Our services focus on being responsive to rather than responsible for people. This person-centered approach entails quality staff teaching skills and providing supports that help the people we serve to:
- Be in charge of their own lives
- Live safely in the community
- Advocate for their rights and retain self-respect and dignity
- Meet their basic needs
- Be involved in their community
- Develop and maintain positive relationships.
Special Neighbors, Inc. is administered by an executive director under the guidance of a volunteer board of directors. We have been accredited since 1985 by CARF and are active members in MARF. Special Neighbors is registered with Donor Edge, a service of The Greater Kansas City Community which allows donors to view company profiles.
Special Neighbors receives partial funding from Developmental Disability Services of Jackson County-Eitas and the Missouri Department of Mental Health. We also rely on contributions from the community. If you would like to make a tax deductible donation you can donate on-line to us through the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation. We acknowledge all donations with a letter and receipt. If you do not receive one, please let us know.
